The Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and contributions from athletes, coaches, teams, officials, volunteers, leaders, and organizations across British Columbia.
The event brings the BC sport community together to recognize excellence across Sport BC’s award categories.

Nominations Are Open
Nominations are now open for the 2027 Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards and all award categories recognized as part of the event. Full award descriptions, eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and nomination instructions are available within each nomination form.

Recognizes a coach who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, mentorship, and success in guiding athletes or teams in amateur sport.

Harry Jerome Comeback Award
Honours an athlete who, in 2026, overcame an extraordinary setback, such as illness, injury, or another challenge, while competing in an individual or team sport.

BC Women & Sport Awards
BC Women & Sport celebrates women who have made exceptional contributions to physical activity, sport, recreation, and gender equity in British Columbia.
Recipients will be recognized at the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards on March 4, 2027, and celebrated again at Sport BC’s International Women’s Day event on March 8, 2027.
Bobbie Steen Legacy Award
Recognizes an emerging female leader committed to advancing gender equity in physical activity, sport, and recreation in BC.
The recipient receives a $2,000 award to support programs or education that champion gender equity.

In Her Footsteps
Celebrates women who have made exceptional contributions to sport in British Columbia through leadership, achievement, advocacy, coaching, officiating, administration, mentorship, and other efforts that advance opportunities for girls and women.
Two recipients are recognized annually and are permanently featured in the In Her Footsteps: Celebrating BC Women in Sport exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Presidents’ Awards
The Presidents’ Awards recognize volunteers from Sport BC member organizations who exemplify the spirit of volunteerism through exceptional dedication, energy, and commitment to the growth and development of their sport or organization.
Each Sport BC member organization may recognize one volunteer per year.
The Presidents’ Awards ceremony takes place on March 4, 2027, immediately before the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Daryl Thompson Award
Named in honour of the late Daryl Thompson, former Chair of Sport BC, this award recognizes an individual who has made an extraordinary, long-term contribution to amateur sport in British Columbia through leadership, service, and dedication.

Delivering on Diversity Award
Recognizes a Provincial, Disability, or Multi-Sport Organization that has demonstrated a strong commitment to making sport welcoming, diverse, and inclusive.
The award recognizes initiatives that address barriers to participation, engage underrepresented communities, and advance diversity and inclusion through policies, programs, partnerships, or other initiatives.
The recipient organization will be recognized at the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards and receive $5,000 to continue advancing its diversity and inclusion initiatives.
