The Delivering on Diversity Award was established by the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport to amplify the Province of BC’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The inaugural recipient in 2020 was BC Golf, followed by PacificSport Fraser Valley, Volleyball BC and last year BC Ultimate received the award. Sport BC is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Delivering on Diversity Award winner, Squash BC. Congratulations to Sport BC member Squash BC, led by Executive Director Kim Dennis.

The Province of British Columbia is proud to support the Delivering on Diversity Awards as an important initiative that recognizes special commitments toward diversity, equity and inclusion in sport programs and services. We believe in the power of sport, and we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of sport. We also believe it is important to recognize those who have made great strides to remove barriers to participation in sport for the most under-represented groups.

“I am proud to see Squash BC being recognized for their dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion, especially in addressing the gender gap in sport,” said Anne Kang Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “Everyone in B.C. should be able to participate in sport no matter who they are or where they live. Thank you to Squash BC for their commitment to this ideal and for their work in making B.C. a great place to play sport.”

Squash BC was selected for this award because of their innovative work and clear commitment to having a large impact on diversity. The Province of BC thanks Squash BC, Kim Dennis, and the entire team for their efforts and the dedication that drives their commitment diversity and inclusion. On receiving the award Squash BC Executive Director, Kim Dennis shared, “We’re incredibly proud to be recognized with the Delivering Diversity Award. It reflects the collective effort of our community to ensure squash in BC is a sport where everyone can see themselves, feel welcome, and have the opportunity to thrive.”

Squash BC has been recognized for its impactful Women in Squash Initiative, a province-wide effort designed to address gender gaps in participation, leadership, and athlete development. Launched in 2023, the initiative responds to the historic underrepresentation of women in the sport by creating welcoming entry points and leadership pathways for women and girls. Key programs include the Women in Squash Leadership Conference, the Coach Mentorship Program, and Women’s Squash Week, which together provide opportunities for skill development, mentorship, and community building. Participation has continued to grow, with Women’s Squash Week reaching 579 participants in 2024 and more than 700 in 2025 across clubs throughout British Columbia. As a result of these efforts, Squash BC has achieved 50% female participation in grassroots programming while strengthening pathways for women to advance as athletes, coaches, and leaders within the sport.
