Sport BC is proud to collaborate with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and Sport Law to host a legal and leadership learning session for sport leaders

In collaboration with Sport Law and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, Sport BC is proud to be hosting we a legal and leadership workshop on September 28-29, 2023. The workshop is part of Hope on the Horizon, a cross country tour that is designed to increase the capacity of sport leaders to better manage the complexities of leading a 21st Century sport organization.

The Hope on the Horizon Tour was conceived as part of Sport Law and the CCES’s commitment to meaningfully support the sport community at the provincial and territorial levels. In response to increased expectations related to good governance, risk management, safety in sport, values-based leadership, and so much more, there is a desire to better support provincial and territorial sport organizations who are an instrumental part of the Canadian sport landscape. To date 12 provincial and territorial collaborators have confirmed their interest in being a part of the Hope on the Horizon Tour.

“Sport BC is committed to providing meaningful learning opportunities for our members, the leaders of amateur sport in British Columbia. Partnering with Sport Law and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport to host Hope On The Horizon is exactly what our members need right now. We trust this will be an important and inspiring two days of dialogue, learning, and collaboration, shared Rob Newman, President and CEO, Sport BC.

“We believe that hope is the one thing that can change everything. As a result, we have committed to launching Hope on the Horizon, a national Tour hosted in collaboration with provincial and territorial partners who want to join us in a coordinated effort that connects, educates, and inspires leaders to modernize their business practices,” shared Steve Indig, Sport Law Partner.

“The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport has been championing ethical sport since 1991. We believe in working collaboratively to address unethical behaviours and promoting a values-based approach to sport to ensure positive sport experiences for all. As part of our commitment to foster safe and welcoming environments through True Sport, we are excited to support provincial and territorial sport leaders who are instrumental in making sport better,” shared Karri Dawson, Executive Director, Values-Based Sport, CCES.
