In Her Footsteps is an annual recognition program that honours female athletes, coaches, officials, judges, pioneers or advocates in BC. These women have made significant contributions to sport and fitness through their own performance, or by enabling others to excel by encouraging participation and fostering developmental growth in sport. Each year two honourees are selected and then invited and honoured publicly at Sport BC’s Annual Athlete of the Year Awards banquet in Vancouver. In addition to the public recognition, the honourees are profiled in the In Her Footsteps Celebrating BC Women in Sport exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame. The exhibit honours individuals, as well as women’s teams; women who are or have been athletes, coaches, officials, builders, pioneers – all advocates for girls’ and women’s participation in physical activity, sport & recreation.
