The BC AMATEUR SPORT FUND (BCASF) is a philanthropic gift-giving program, previously known as the National Sport Trust Fund for the development of amateur sport on a national level. The BCASF seeks to raise funds to benefit amateur sport initiatives in the province of British Columbia by partnering with Sport BC’s Provincial Sport Organizations (“PSO”) and their member clubs on projects that promote participation, competition, or governance of sport.
The BCASF is the BC chapter of the Canadian Council of Provincial & Territorial Sport Federations (“CCPTSF”), a Registered Canadian Amateur Association (“RCAAA”, ) with charitable status established in 1980 to promote amateur athletics across Canada (CRA program number 88938 6868 RR0001). CCPTSF uses its provincial/territorial network to identify projects operated by sport organizations that are part of the Canadian amateur sport system that align with at least one of the objectives of the Canadian Sport Policy. Once a project is approved, the applicant can solicit donations for the project and then apply and receive grants from funds raised. In partnership with BCASF, projects are also able to access grant programs available though community and other foundations.
In 2025 the Fund raised $8.1 million to the benefit of 181 projects over 39 sports.
As a registered Canadian Amateur Athletic Association (RCAAA), the BC Amateur Sport Fund is able to issue an official tax receipt for all qualifying donations of $20 or greater. The BCASF has provincial chapters across Canada, with Sport BC as the Fund Manager of the BC chapter.
With sport organizations looking to diversify their revenue streams, the BC Amateur Sport Fund offers the opportunity for sporting groups to develop fundraising programs which target fundraising from private sources; including individuals, corporations and foundations.
