Media Advisory – February 13, 2026 – (Vancouver, BC)

Sport BC is pleased to announce Terrie Moore as the recipient of the Daryl Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing an individual who has made an extraordinary, long-term contribution to amateur sport in British Columbia through leadership, service, and dedication.

The Daryl Thompson Award will be presented at the Presidents’ Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, prior to the 58th Annual Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards.

Terrie Moore has dedicated more than 45 years to advancing disability and para sport in British Columbia and beyond. A founding member of the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association of British Columbia (now SportAbility) and the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, Terrie served as Executive Director of SportAbility for 30 years. During her tenure, she established and sustained inclusive sport opportunities for athletes with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities, positioning British Columbia as a national leader in disability sport.

Throughout her career, Terrie played key leadership roles in provincial and national initiatives, including the BC Disability Games, the BC Sports and Fitness Council for the Disabled, and the Sport BC Provincial Sport Organization Council. Her work strengthened pathways from grassroots participation to competitive and high-performance sport.

Internationally, Terrie is widely respected for her leadership in athlete classification. Over more than two decades, she contributed to classification systems across multiple sports and International Federations, including para-cycling and para taekwondo. Terrie was one of the authors of the original classification Code, a defining document for Paralympic classification, and she also wrote the classification systems for para cycling, para taekwondo, boccia and power chair football. Her work helped modernize classification through evidence-based systems, ensured compliance with the IPC Classification Code, and improved transparency and fairness in para sport.

Terrie served on the inaugural International Paralympic Committee Classification Code development committee and worked at six Paralympic Games: Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020. In 2024, she received the IPC Classification Recognition Award, honouring her outstanding service to the Paralympic Movement.

Following her retirement from SportAbility in 2014, Terrie continued to serve the sport community through board leadership and international classification work, most recently concluding a term on the SportAbility Board of Directors in December 2025.

“The Daryl Thompson Award recognizes individuals whose lifelong commitment has strengthened sport in British Columbia,” said Sport BC President and CEO Rob Newman. “Terrie Moore’s leadership and service have had a lasting impact locally and internationally and exemplify the values this award represents.”

The inclusion of the Daryl Thompson Award within the Presidents’ Awards Ceremony reinforces Sport BC’s commitment to distinguishing between performance excellence and service excellence. While the Athlete of the Year Awards continue to celebrate athletic and coaching achievement, the Presidents’ Awards honour those who dedicate their lives to building, supporting, and sustaining the sport community in British Columbia.

Sport BC congratulates Terrie Moore on being selected as the Daryl Thompson Award recipient, and thanks SportAbility for submitting her nomination.
