Towards Sport 2.0: A vision for healthy, human sport
September 12, 2024 – Sport BC is pleased to share Towards Sport 2.0: Hope on the Horizon Impact Report with our community, a report produced by Sport Law, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES). The leaders from Sport Law and the CCES travelled to 12 different cities and visited nine provinces and territories across Canada including Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, Nunavut, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Manitoba.
As part of the Hope on the Horizon Tour, which took place from April 2023 to June 2024, Sport BC hosted a two-day gathering to explore how we could proactively address the legal and leadership needs of our provincial and community-based sport organizations and to reclaim the promise of sport through a values-based approach to sport. We were delighted to engage dozens of sport leaders on how we could re-imagine a new sport delivery model based on shared values and the True Sport Principles. We walked away more committed than ever to shape a healthier sport culture.
During the workshop, we were able to address risks and opportunities related to good governance, risk management, safety in sport, values-based leadership, True Sport activation, and more. As a result, we feel more committed to addressing the limitations of the current sport landscape and to inspire sustainable change.
“Sport BC was proud to host Hope on the Horizon on behalf of our members and the amateur sport sector in British Columbia. It was an inspiring two-days of collaboration and as outlined in the report, we trust it was a meaningful opportunity to outline future goals for sport. We applaud Sport Law for their leadership of this ambitious initiative,” shared Rob Newman President and CEO of Sport BC.
“We are delighted to share the stories and wishes from sport leaders across the country who believe in the power of sport to strengthen communities and inspire a nation. They had so many important insights to offer and we are grateful for their wisdom and commitment to make important improvements,” shared Dina Bell-Laroche, Sport Law Partner.
“The CCES was grateful to meet with provincial, territorial, and community sport leaders to learn how we can collaborate to ensure a fair, safe, accessible and inclusive sport experience. Across the country there is a growing appetite for a proactive approach to help foster a positive sport culture. As the network leader for values-based sport, we look forward to activating the True Sport Principles with leaders across the country.” shared Karri Dawson, Executive Director, Values-Based Sport, CCES.
