For Immediate Release – June 8, 2020 (Vancouver, BC)

Vancouver, BC – Sport BC announced its Board of Directors and support for its members. Sport BC is the non-profit sport federation, representing over 60 Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs), Multi-Sport Organizations (MSOs), and Disability Sport Organizations (DSOs) in British Columbia. As a member-based organization, Sport BC offers services and programs to build the capacity of our members and advocate on their behalf to improve the landscape for organized sport in BC.

Sport BC is led by a Board of Directors who we confirmed at the organization’s recent Annual General Meeting, held on May 28, 2020. Sport BC is proud to announce its Board of Directors who will be guiding the organization:

  • Chair, Blair Lowther
  • Vice-Chair, Lisa Kwiatkowski
  • Director, Greg White
  • Director, Mario Ramos
  • Director, Jennifer Fenton
  • Director, Sandi Swanigan

During the meeting, the members of Sport BC approved a motion recommended  by the Board of Directors to waive the annual membership fee required to be a member of the organization. The Board of Directors recommended the motion as a demonstration of support of amateur sport during the current challenging time for the sector. The Board of Directors strongly believes in the importance of sport and that working collaboratively is key to the safe return of sport.

Of this decision, Chair Blair Lowther says, “Sport BC recognizes the significant impact COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on our member organizations. While we know waiving our membership fees will not solve all of these challenges, our Board of Directors felt it is an important demonstration of support. We all believe in the transformative power of sport and want to do everything we can to support our member organizations.”

Rob Newman, President and CEO of Sport BC says, “I applaud the Board of Directors for recommending  the motion  and trust our members appreciate the gesture of support. For over 50 years, Sport BC has worked to serve its membership, together we are all working hard to ensure sport is thriving in our province. We know there is strength in membership, and in the last few months we have witnessed the collaborative nature of the sport sector. Thank you to our sport leaders for their dedicated efforts to providing opportunities in sport for all British Columbians.”

The 2019-2020 activities of Sport BC were shared at the Annual General Meeting and highlights are in the organization’s Annual Report which can be accessed at        https://sportbc.com//about/.
