Rob Newman

Rob has over 30 years experience in the Insurance Industry through which he has gained valuable experience in Claims, Underwriting and Sales. Rob owned and operated a successful Insurance Agency that provided Insurance marketing and sales throughout Western Canada. Rob has also served as a Board Member for Affinity Credit Union along with being a representative on the National Insurance     Agents Council. Rob also brings a wealth of knowledge in Sport Governance and led the Governance Reform Project at the CSA as Governance Chair and Vice President. He spent over 20 years as a coach, PSO President and Vice President of a National Sport Organization. Rob has also served on Organizing Committee’s for World Junior Hockey and FIFA World Cup events. Rob is also a citizen of the Metis Nation.

Jocelyn Chua

Jocelyn has been working at Sport BC since September 2014.  She oversees the Accounting Operations of Sport BC (including its subsidiary, SBC Insurance) and the Payroll Services function.  She is also responsible for the accuracy of the books and records of Sport BC and of the payroll and benefits processes and records administered on behalf of the PSOs.  Please contact Jocelyn if you have any inquiries.

Helen has been working at SportBC since June 2015. She is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll and employee benefits for approximately 70 individual business units comprising 350 plus employees. Please contact Helen if you have any inquiries regarding payroll and benefits.

Christine joined the Sport BC team in October 2014 and is responsible for communication to the PSOs and the general public, as well as all social media activities.  She provides administrative support to the Human Resources and Finance departments, and coordinates the ‘Athlete of the Year’ awards.  Christine played an essential role in the success of the Inaugural Americas Masters Games, held in Vancouver in 2016.

KidSport

Pete Quevillon

A Sport BC employee since 1997, Pete is the Director of KidSport BC. As the charitable arm of Sport BC, KidSport provides financial assistance to families in need to support the costs of organized sport registration fees. Over 7300 kids in BC received KidSport support in 2017 with over $1.95 million in grants distributed via 41 community chapters.

Pete chairs the KidSport National Operations Committee and has sat on the Content and Capacity Building Advisory Group for ParticipACTION as well as served as a board member for the Mike and Manny Foundation. He has served on a variety of boards including the BC Recreation and Parks Association, the Vancouver Olympic Bid Committee Facilities Working Group, the Kitsilano Community Centre Association and the ParticipACTION Torch Relay Advisory Committee. He has coached basketball and baseball at a variety of levels and age groups and is currently looking forward to a life of leisure in his pending retirement.

Thea has been Manager for KidSport BC since October 2015 and is enthusiastic and committed to having a positive influence on the Canadian and global sport landscape. A strong believer of athlete-centered sport, Thea is currently the Vice President of AthletesCAN, the voice of Canadian national team athletes, and served as Athlete Director for Field Hockey Canada’s board of directors from 2009-2018.

 She comes from a varied sport background with most recent experience working as Program Coordinator for both Judo BC and Karate BC. Before retiring from international competition in 2016, Thea led the Canadian National Field Hockey Team to capture a bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games, the first Canadian women’s field hockey team to medal at the Games since 1999.

Larissa Franklin
Program Assistant

Larissa joined KidSport BC in February of 2018. Her involvement with KidSport began as an athlete ambassador and has continued as a board member with the KidSport Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows chapter.  Larissa is a current member of the Canadian Women’s National Softball Team and 2015 Pan American Gold Medalist. Additionally, she serves as an athlete rep with the Canadian Athletes Now Fund (CANFund). She continues to immerse herself in sport by growing the game of softball through coaching clinics and as an instructor at the Delta Softball Academy.

Pedro Catalan
General Manager

Pedro started his insurance career in Ontario in 1989 as an underwriter for a major Insurance Company. He moved to the broker side in 1991, and moved back to Vancouver in 1993, where he spent time at several insurance brokerages providing home and auto insurance to clients. In 1999 Pedro moved to the commercial insurance side working for a large equipment manufacturer providing insurance to customers for their new equipment and liability. He then moved on to a large multi national insurance broker, specializing in Commercial Liability and Professional Liability. He spent the next 9 years at a large Vancouver based brokerage in the commercial insurance department, eventually working his way to management leading a team of 4. Pedro joined SBC Insurance as the General Manager in March 2016, and has been instrumental in setting the company up for its next stage of growth.

Cameron Cheung
Assistant Manager

Born in New Westminster, BC, and raised in Coquitlam, BC, Canada, Cameron grew up playing various types of organized sports. He started with playing organized soccer at the age of 3 and was subsequently put into organized baseball, roller hockey, volleyball, basketball and ice hockey leagues. At the age of 8, because of the conflicting schedules between the various sports, he was given the choice to pursue just one sport. Cameron chose to focus and dedicate his time to ice hockey and it has led to his passion for the game to this very day. He continues to play organized adult men’s hockey and is an avid Vancouver Canucks fan. His insurance career began in 2012 with a reputable insurance company dealing with direct auto and home insurance. A few years later he decided to switch to the broker side and specialize on home insurance. This career path has now led him to SBC Insurance where he can now combine his love of sports with insurance!
