North Vancouver sport heroes announced

Five dedicated sport volunteers to receive Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana
Richmond, BC – Sport BC will honour five dedicated sport leaders from the City of North Vancouver on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana.
The public award ceremony, hosted at Park Royal Mall, celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers. North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto and West Vancouver Mayor Pamela Goldsmith-Jones will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO of Sport BC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the five scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2011 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in North Vancouver:
- Luigi Galvani, Sport Ability
- Randy Scott, Special Olympics
- Chris Locher, Lacrosse
- Nicky Carroll, Gymnastics
- Janis Alden, Action Schools! BC
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, beginning at 7:00pm. The ceremony will be held in conjunction with the North Shore Sport Awards, which celebrates the sport achievement of athletes, coaches and officials at all levels. North Vancouver is the fourth stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2011.
