Coquitlam sport heroes announced

Six dedicated sport volunteers to receive Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana
Richmond, BC – Sport BC will honour six dedicated sport leaders from the City of Coquitlam on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana.
The public award ceremony, hosted at the Executive Plaza Hotel, celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers. Mayor Richard Stewart will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO of Sport BC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the six scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2011 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Coquitlam:
- Bryan Gee, Volleyball
- Jim Lacroix, Special Olympics
- Teena and Steve Frost, Basketball
- Garry Hornsberger, Archery
- Sue Williems, Skate Canada BC/YT Section
- Donald Hutchinson, Action Schools! BC
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, which begins at 6:00pm.
Coquitlam is the third stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2011. The program will travel next to North Vancouver and Cranbrook in April.
