Finalists announced for Sport BC’s 45th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards presented by TELUS
Winners for performances in 2010 to be honoured at ceremony on February 24, 2011
Richmond, BC – Sport BC announced today the outstanding amateur athletes, coaches and officials named as finalists for 13 of the 17 award categories to be presented at the upcoming Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards, presented by TELUS.
The awards ceremony and gala dinner, set for February 24, 2011 at the River Rock Show Theatre in Richmond BC, recognizes BC’s best amateur athletes, coaches, and officials for outstanding performances in their sport over the 2010 season. Each finalist was nominated by their Provincial Sport Organization, high school or university, and voted for by a selection committee of BC sportswriters, broadcasters, athletes and amateur sport experts.
“Following the unprecedented success of BC’s athletes at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the strength of the finalists announced today stands as a testament to the quality of the programming and development initiatives available through BC’s sport sector,” said Sport BC’s President & CEO Tim Gayda. “As the longest-running sport recognition event in Canada, Sport BC’s Athlete of the Year Awards has honoured some of BC’s greatest athletes from the past 45 years and we continue that tradition in 2011.”
Other awards presented at the ceremony include Best of BC, a people’s choice award presented to an outstanding professional or amateur BC athlete. Submit your vote for the Best of BC award winner and reserve tickets for the dinner and award ceremony at SportBC.com.
