Courtenay sport heroes announced

Nine dedicated sport volunteers to receive Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana


Richmond, BC –
Sport BC will honour nine dedicated sport leaders from the City of Courtenay on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana.

The public award ceremony, hosted at the Crown Isle Golf Resort, celebrates the contributions of longtime community sport volunteers. The Mayor of the City of Courtenay, Greg Phelps, will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.

“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO of Sport BC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the nine scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.

 The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2010 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Courtenay: 

  • Innes Bosomworth, Baseball
  • Sandra Gallaway, Multi-Sports
  • Sharon de Goede, Athletics
  • Ed Harding, Ringette
  • Haley Humphrey, Ringette
  • Tricia Farnsworth, Swimming
  • Gord Kruger, Softball
  • Ed Lafleur, Weightlifting
  • Randi Reid, Lacrosse

The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, which begins at 6:00pm.

Courtenay is the twelfth and final stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2010. The program will kick off again for 2011 in Victoria in late January.
