Penticton sport heroes announced
Seven dedicated sport volunteers to receive Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards presented by encana

Richmond, BC – Sport BC will honour seven dedicated sport leaders from the City of Penticton on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by encana.
The award ceremony, hosted at the Penticton Lakeshore Resort in Salon B, celebrates the contributions of longtime community sport volunteers. Dan Ashton, Mayor of the City of Penticton, will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, President and CEO of Sport BC. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the seven scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2010 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Penticton:
- Mona Hazell, Special Olympics
- Dan Chetner, Lacrosse
- Bruce Johnson, BC Games Society
- Brad Lee, Triathlon
- Henry Boas, BC Games Society
- Dona Cade, Special Olympics
- Gary McBryde, Multi-Sports
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, which begins at 6:00pm. Penticton is the eleventh stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2010, heading next to Courtenay in December to finish the year.
