Chetwynd sport heroes announced
Eight dedicated sport volunteers to receive Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards presented by EnCana

Richmond, BC – Sport BC will honour eight dedicated sport leaders from Chetwynd on Wednesday August 18, 2010 with our Community Sport Hero Awards presented by EnCana.
The award ceremony, hosted at the Chetwynd Recreation Centre in the Cottonwood Room, celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers. Peace FM on-air personalities Marsha Bismark and Dustin Grant will emcee the event, while Chetwynd Mayor Evan Saugstad, will be in attendance to present the winners with their awards and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards’ official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Rick Christiaanse, Executive Vice-President of Sport BC. “Community volunteers, like the eight scheduled to be honoured, are crucial to the success of sport in BC and the development of strong, healthy communities.”
“EnCana is pleased to present Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards in Chetwynd for the first time this year,” said Jeff Beale, EnCana Community Relations Advisor. “These long-time volunteers represent the very best of a community we are proud to be a part of, and demonstrate the strength of sport in Chetwynd.”
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2010 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in Chetwynd:
- Ellen Caillou Baseball
- Kevin Canning Skating
- Les Commeau Soccer
- Graciete Folster Curling
- Ted Goldie Golf
- Brenda Keutzer Skating
- Bonnie McKee Skating
- Morse Paquette Hockey
The public is invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony, which begins at 6:00pm.
Chetwynd is the eighth stop for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2010, traveling also to Tumbler Ridge on August 17.
