Richmond, BC – Sport BC honoured five dedicated sport leaders from the Township of Langley on Wednesday April 21, with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by EnCana.
The award ceremony, hosted at the Langley Events Centre, followed the torch lighting celebration for the BC Summer Games, which will be held in the Township this July. Award recipients were honoured with a special presentation by Paul Varian, President and CEO of Sport BC, and a gift from the Community Sport Hero Awards official apparel provider, FIRSTAR Sports.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Varian. “These awards represent their dedication to building and growing sport at the community level. It is also an opportunity to celebrate those who have helped athletes, often behind the scenes, to pursue the sport they love.”
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2010 Sport BC Community Sport Hero Awards in the Township of Langley:
- Carole Williamson, Gymnastics
- Cheryl Simpson, Curling

The Township of Langley is the fourth community Sport BC visited in 2010 with the Community Sport Hero Awards, heading next to Whistler May 19, 2010.
