Richmond, BC – Following a record breaking Canadian medal haul at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, Sport BC, in partnership with the Resort Municipality of Whistler, encourages all British Columbians to celebrate the accomplishments of the athletes and vote online for the top BC Winter Paralympian. The athlete who receives the highest number of votes will be honoured with an award for his or her achievements at Sport BC’s 44th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards presented by TELUS.
Voters will have to choose between the following BC Paralympians:
- Team Armstrong; Wheelchair curling
- Josh Dueck, Kimberley, BC; Alpine Sitski
- Lauren Woolstencroft, North Vancouver, BC; Alpine Standing
“This group of athletes represented British Columbia incredibly well over the past 10 days,” said Rick Christiaanse, Executive Vice-President of Sport BC. “They were chosen to be part of the voting process not only for the medals around their necks but also for their inspirational performances and dedication to their sport.”
Presented by the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the award is one of two new categories added to the long standing sport recognition celebration following the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The poll, along with biography information on each candidate, is now live on www.sportbc.com.
A similar poll for the top BC Olympic athlete began March 10 and has since garnered over 2400 votes. Both will stay open until event day on March 31, 2010.
Join us at the River Rock Show Theatre for the first sport recognition event following the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games and witness the celebration of BC’s finest athletes.
