Richmond, BC – Sport BC is delighted with today’s announcement from the Province of British Columbia for their ongoing investment for youth and disabled sport programs, including soccer, cycling, volleyball, wheelchair sports, KidSport™, and others, as part of their three-year commitment to amateur sport. Sport BC and the Provincial Sport Organizations will continue to offer valuable programs and services for British Columbia’s youth and disabled sport participants to engage in sport and lead active and healthy lifestyles.
“Sport BC and the Provincial Sport Organizations are pleased we can offer valuable programs and services for the youth and disabled sport participants in all areas of our province thanks to this continued investment by the Province of British Columbia,” said Paul Varian, President and CEO of Sport BC. “We remain committed and dedicated to our partnership with the Province of British Columbia, and honouring the commitment of the three-year community gaming grants reinforces the priority the Province of British Columbia places on healthy living and sport.”
To ensure the long-term success of amateur sport programming in British Columbia, and a legacy for the 2010 Games, the development of a sustainable and self-funding sport sector is essential for Sport BC and its members. For example, over the past 12 months, Sport BC has secured and renewed agreements with existing corporate partners, established strategic alliances and commitments with new corporate partners, and introduced seven new corporate affinity partner programs that allow members to receive discounted prices on services and products. SBC Insurance and All-Sport Insurance Marketing Ltd., continue to generate important discretionary revenue, which is passed on to members through discounted professional services and support for sector leadership and development activities.
As the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games draw near, Sport BC and its members will continue to building and sustain energy and momentum by offering programs to promote the benefits of sport and celebrate the achievements of sport participants across the province.
