BC coaches among those honoured with Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards
The Coaching Association of Canada announced 43 recipients of the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards and among them were six BC coaches. The award recognizes coaches whose athletes have excelled at World Championships and/or the Olympic and Paralympic Games and will be presented Friday, November 19 at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif in Ottawa.
The award recipients from BC are:
- Houshang Amiri (Victoria, BC): coach of Brian Cowie, tandem bronze medallist, World Para-cycling Championships.
- Mark Fawcett (Nelson, BC): coach of Jasey-Jay Anderson, Olympic champion in parallel giant slalom.
- Ron Jacks (Victoria, BC): coach of Stephanie Dixon, 400-metre freestyle gold medallist, World Para-swimming Championships.
- Peter Lawless (Victoria, BC): coach of Mark Ledo, road race bronze medallist, World Para-cycling Championships.
- Joe Rea (Prince George, BC): coach of the Jim Armstrong rink, Paralympic gold medallists.
- Richard Wooles (Vancouver, BC): coach of Tara Whitten, Omnium champion, World Cycling Championships.
