BC Head Coach and Captain Lead Canadian Rugby Team to Victory
At Sam Boyd Stadium in front of tens of thousands of people, the Canadian Rugby team took to the field to defeat the Netherlands in the 2011 HSBC Sevens World Series. The international tournament featured five nations who took part in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Canada, USA, Spain, France and the Netherlands.
Captain Mandy Marchak (Vancouver, BC), Brittany Waters (Vancouver, BC), Rosie Cobbett (Kamloops, BC), and Head Coach John Tait (Victoria, BC) were some of the key players on the National Team that led them to the championship in Las Vegas. The Canadians won the match 17 – 12 following a gruelling battle with a very talented team from the Netherlands.
After the heart-fought match, Captain Mandy Marchak expresses the amazing journey to the finals and all the support from Canada’s women’s rugby program.
“This was an incredible week for Canada’s women’s program. It wasn’t just us (the team that won the title), people need to know that there were close 50 girls behind, who worked just as hard this week and improved just as much. I’m so proud of everyone here!”
