North Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino Advances to Second Round at Australian Open
After being named Tennis Canada Female Player of the Year in 2010, Rebecca Marino continues her success as she advances to the second round at the Australian Open. This is Marino’s second career Grand Slam match, defeating Japan’s Junri Namigata 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Last year, Marino finished her remarkable season with a 42-33 record, winning more matches (25) than any other player during the final three months of the season. She also took tennis sensation, Venus Williams, to a first-set tiebreaker at the U.S. Open after advancing to the second round. The 20 year-old BC native is now up for her first challenge of the year as she faces another top 10 opponent, Francesca Schiavone, at the Australian Open.
