Ryder Hesjedal named Male Canadian Cyclist of the Year after dominant turn at the Tour de France in 2010

Victoria’s own Ryder Hesjedal capped off 2010 with a little hardware from the 14th annual Canadian Cyclist of the Year Awards. The road cyclist was named Male Canadian Cyclist of the Year in a people’s choice ballot for a spectacular 2010 season that included a seventh-overall finish in the 2010 Tour de France.

Svein Tuft of Langley, BC,  currently the second highest ranked Canadian professional in the world and national time trial champion, finished second to Hesjedal in balloting. Fellow BC native Catharine Pendrel of Kamloops finished second in balloting for the title of Female Canadian Cyclist of the Year, behind Tara Whitten of Edmonton. Pendrel won the overall mountain bike World Cup and two individual World Cup events in 2010.
