BC Skiers Finish Strong at Nationals
On the icy hills of Val St. Come, Quebec, a handful of BC freestyle skiers posted top five finishes at the Canadian Post National Championships. In the women`s moguls division, Kristi Richards (Summerland, BC) took the Canadian Championship for the second year in a row and Sport BC’s Jr. Female Athlete of the Year Nominee, Andi Naude, (Penticton, BC) finished with a stunning 4th place performance. Kristi, who had a disappointing qualification run, pulled together in the finals to win with a score of 22.01. “This course today was gnarly, it warmed up and was slushy yesterday, then dropped to minus 10 today, so as you can imagine it was an entire block of ice with nice big sharp ice-chunk moguls. Really, my first run was terrible, but I laid it down for finals.” On the men’s side, Langley’s Eddie Hicks won the silver medal, posting his strongest performance at the Nationals. He finished less than two points behind two-time World Championship medalist, Mikael Kingsbury.
