Sport BC announces the HARRY JEROME COMEBACK AWARD WINNER of the 2016 Athlete of the Year Awards, presented by Canadian Direct Insurance
Winner will be honoured at a ceremony on March 10th, 2016

RICHMOND, BC (February 15, 2016) — Sport BC is pleased to announce the distinguished Harry Jerome Comeback Award Recipient who will be recognized at the 50th Athlete of the Year Awards in Vancouver on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

HARRY JEROME COMEBACK AWARD, presented by Canadian Direct Insurance
This award recognizes an athlete who competed in a sport, individual or team, in 2015 after having suffered an unusual setback (i.e. illness, injury, etc.)

2016 Harry Jerome Comeback Award Winner – TORY NYHAUG (Coquitlam, BC – BMX Cycling)

Tory’s story is one that no one could forget easily – and that includes rupturing his spleen twice while competing on the world stage.   Tory has returned to the top of his sport internationally after recovering from injury last year at the World Championships in Zolder, Belgium and is well on his way to representing Canada at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.  Despite being at the top of his sport internationally since he emerged on the international scene, Tory continues to inspire kids at the local level, helping out with coaching young riders at the local tracks. He is an inspiration for riders in BC who dream of representing Canada at Olympic Games, while still remain accessible and humble, in wanting to help others realize these dreams as well. Tory’s love of cycling has never waned, even though he has been in the sport for nearly two decades. He is focused and determined even when faced with injury, encourages young athletes, and always has something positive to say about his fellow competitors.
