RICHMOND, BC (February 18, 2016) — Sport BC is pleased to announce the distinguished Best of BC Award Recipient who will be recognized at the 50th Athlete of the Year Awards in Vancouver on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

The recipient of the prestigious annual Best of BC award is the individual or team thought to have best represented BC, nationally or internationally, in either a professional or amateur sport.

2016 Best of BC Award Winner – CAREY PRICE  (Anahim Lake, BC – Hockey)

Carey has shown perseverance and dedication throughout his entire NHL career.  As a BC native of Anahim Lake, his work ethic has carried him and both his teams; the Montreal Canadians and Team Canada; to great success.  The winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy, Vezina Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Hart Trophy, NHL First All-Star Team, Lou Marsh Trophy and the Lional Conacher Award represents a humbling and down to earth candidate of the Best of BC Award. In October of 2015, Carey showed his support of the community that raised him in the game by donating $10,000 worth of goalie equipment to the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association.
The Athlete of the Year Awards, founded by Sport BC, is the longest standing amateur sport recognition event in the country.  Awards in 18 different categories are given each year to athletes, coaches, and officials on their performance and contribution to sport in the province of British Columbia.  The awards play a valuable role in nurturing athletic success while recognizing extraordinary accomplishments in BC.
